HAVANA, CUBA —In Cuba the arts truly come alive. No matter where one goes at any time of day; they are able to see, hear, or taste some form of art. One can experience visual art on the street, musical performances in a restaurant, or even a live performance at the theatre; but there is one place where Cubans and tourists can receive it all.
The Fábrica de Arte Cubano
, also known as The FAC to the locals, is the place to go to experience art in all forms. After walking through the doors of the warehouse styled building, one is able to visit multiple bars see and taste the creations of local bar tenders. On all three levels of the warehouse one is consumed with a number of visual art pieces. There are paintings, photos, sculptures, and even fashion wear that are changed and updated often. Majority of the pieces are done by local artists and some are even interactive.
In one room there is what resembles a black box theatre where live theatrical performances take place. Adjacent to that room, there is a section with a stage and walls covered in posters of musical greats such as Jimi Hendrix
and Bob Marley
. In this section of the FAC one can experience live performances that leave the crowd in awe such as Jazz singer Daymé Arocena
did the night Morgan students visited.
Everything here is amazing. The only thing that I would change about the FAC is moving it to Baltimore. I feel like every city needs this all encompassing art experience
—Morgan student Kendra Hawkins
If you ever get a chance to visit Havana Cuba, be sure to stop by the FAC and experience art in a way you may not have before.
