Cuba june.2016: esto es Cuba! —Hotel Nacional June 4, 2016

HAVANA, CUBA —After experiencing long delays with the check-in process at Tampa International Airport (Florida, USA), we successfully made it to Havana, Cuba (approx. 3 pm EST). Our arrival into Cuba’s largest city led us to the special customs section for Americans at the Jose Martí airport.

Customs was interesting. Especially with the fact that they seemed a little suspect of me, and questioned me about nearly everything. But after that was completed, I was good to go

Exiting customs, we experienced a sudden, but torrential downpour. Arriving at the hotel soaked, we discovered a lower currency exchange rate than planned.

Our day did improve once we checked into the Meliã Habana and were greeted with our welcome cocktails of lime juice, sugar, and mint —commonly known as mojitos.

We ended the day dinning at the Hotel Nacional indulging in rice and beans, chicken, tapioca, rice pudding, and another round of authentic Cuban mojitos.
